About the Role

This is a full-time hybrid role for a Construction Manager at Evans Engineering and Construction. The Construction Manager will be responsible for overseeing construction projects, managing budgets and schedules, ensuring quality and safety compliance, and coordinating with architects, engineers, and contractors. The role is based in Nairobi County, Kenya, with flexibility for some remote work.

Requirements

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree: A degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Building Technology, or a related field from a recognized institution.

  • Professional Certification: Registration with the relevant professional bodies, such as the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) or the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).

Experience:

  • Professional Experience: Typically 5-7 years of relevant experience in construction management, with a proven track record of managing large-scale construction projects from inception to completion.

  • Project Experience: Experience managing various types of construction projects, including residential, commercial, or infrastructure projects.

Technical Skills:

  • Project Management Software: Proficiency in project management and scheduling software such as MS Project, Primavera P6, or similar tools.

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction processes, techniques, materials, and regulations.

  • Budgeting and Cost Control: Expertise in budgeting, cost estimation, and financial management of construction projects.

Key Competencies:

  • Leadership Skills: Ability to lead and motivate a team, including subcontractors, architects, and engineers.

  • Problem-Solving Skills: Proficient in identifying potential issues and implementing effective solutions to keep projects on track.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with clients, stakeholders, and team members.

Other Requirements:

  • Health and Safety: Knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices in construction, with a focus on maintaining a safe work environment.

  • Legal Compliance: Familiarity with local construction laws, building codes, and environmental regulations.

  • Project Management: Strong project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Advanced Degree: A master’s degree or specialized training in construction management or a related field can be advantageous.

  • Professional Memberships: Membership in professional organizations such as the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) or the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) is often preferred.
