About the Role
This is a full-time hybrid role for a Structural Engineer. The Structural Engineer will be responsible for designing and analyzing structural systems, overseeing construction projects, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and conducting site inspections. The role is based in Nairobi, Kenya, with flexibility for some remote work.
Requirements
Educational Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree: A degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field from a recognized institution.
Professional Certification: Registration with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) or equivalent certification.
Experience:
Professional Experience: Typically 3-5 years of relevant experience in structural engineering, including experience with both residential and commercial projects.
Project Experience: Proven experience in designing, analyzing, and managing structural systems for various types of construction projects.
Technical Skills:
Design Software: Proficiency in structural design software such as AutoCAD, SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD.Pro, or similar tools.
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of structural analysis and design principles, including knowledge of Kenyan building codes and standards.
Project Management: Ability to oversee project timelines, manage resources, and coordinate with other engineering disciplines.
Key Competencies:
Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify and resolve structural issues and design challenges.
Attention to Detail: Meticulous in ensuring accuracy in design calculations, drawings, and specifications.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders.
Other Requirements:
Health and Safety: Understanding of health and safety regulations and ability to implement safety measures on construction sites.
Legal Compliance: Knowledge of local construction laws and regulations, including environmental regulations.
Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Attributes:
Advanced Degree: A master’s degree or further specialization in structural engineering could be an advantage.
Professional Memberships: Membership in professional engineering organizations, such as the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK), is often preferred.

Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and work in dynamic environments.
